Welcome to an exciting year in 5th grade! I am so happy to be your teacher this year. We have so much to look forward to! You will be reading many different types of books this year. We will read books together, you will read many books independently and you will also read with your classmates in book clubs. As readers, you will talk about characters and themes and support your ideas with evidence from the books. Writers Workshop will be another important part of our school year. This year, you will become an even better narrative (story), informational (report), and argument (opinion) writer. If writing is hard for you, never fear - we will study the work of real authors to learn tricks they use to make their writing better. Writing becomes easier when you learn from others. It will also be fun to investigate the world in science and social studies this year. 5th graders study American history, chemistry, living systems, and weather. Fingers crossed, we will be able to experience Outdoor Education in the spring and living history experiences to help bring all we study this year to life. Parents, thank you for your support of your child's education this year. See you soon!
My name is Mrs. Carlson. This is my seventh year at La Entrada. Before joining the 5th grade team at LE, I taught for 14 years in the Oak Grove School District in San Jose. I live with my husband, CJ and two boys Joe and Noah. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
