From Mrs. Dineen, Assistant Principal

Hello and Welcome to La Entrada!

Welcome to La Entrada, a special place to learn in a community rich in collaboration, highly skilled professionals, terrific students, caring parents and fun!

La Entrada is unique in that we are a campus filled with students from grade 4 through grade 8.  The gift that I have in working here is that I am able to watch young 4th graders grow into middle school 8th graders on one campus.  The experience is one that I treasure. Every Fall I look forward to getting to know the new 4th graders as they begin their La Entrada journey of personal academic and social development.

California is my home and I grew up attending schools in San Bruno and Millbrae back "in the day". I graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in International Business and completed my formal education there also with a Masters in Educational Administration.  I am a first-generation American, on my mother's side, come from a family of educators on my father's side, and believe my profession to not only be a career but a calling.  I feel fortunate to be working in a district that resembles one that I grew up in, one that supports both high academic standards and creative electives such as music, art, and technology classes, and open to students in all five grade levels.  Our middle schoolers may elect to study a foreign language (Latin, Spanish, Mandarin or French), something I personally found very helpful while traveling and living abroad in Europe in the 80's after college.  I believe in the philosophy of learning described in Carol Dweck's Mindset, as well as the value of personal character development through hard work, kindness, community service, and perseverance.  Students who have discussions with me in my office are frequently reminded of my mantra, "Treat others as you would like to be treated."  This mantra has usually helped when working through our typical student trials and tribulations and is a hard one to argue with.

I have a terrific family, a daughter who has recently graduated from UC Davis, a loving husband, Carl Dineen, and two step-children that make our blended family complete.  Family is very important to me and I hope I can provide support and guidance to the La Entrada families in my role as Assistant Principal.  I began my career in education as a 7th grade Core teacher at Woodside Elementary School in 1995 and am enjoying my 10th year as Assistant Principal here at La Entrada.  I especially enjoy middle school campuses and find them to be vibrant places of learning and growth for both the student and their family.  I bring my formal education, life experience and over 20 years of experience as a public educator to my position as your Assistant Principal and look forward to getting to know you during your tenure here at La Entrada!
